One thing is sure : pain gives significance to the act. Fashion or an affirmation of belonging to a group? Pain registers the price of an experience, like a personal rite of passage.

The film explores the duality of passion and pain and asks if passion can exist without pain? In art, literature, sport, it is part of the creative process.

According to David le Breton, Sociologist, the body has been largely forgotten today. It seems imperfect and has to be improved. Marked and modified by tattoos and piercings, the body becomes the result of a deliberate action.

A rugbyman wrecked by multiple fractures, a body-artist who uses his body as a canvas, an alpiniste suffering from frostbite, each have essential information to transmit.
